Taylor Swift just premiered her latest single Safe & Sound just in time for Christmas. The new track will be featured on the soundtrack to the coming movie - Jennifer Lawrence starring "Hunger Games". The song, currently available exclusively through iTunes, is actually collaboration between Swift, alt-folk duo the Civil Wars, and Games music producer T Bone Burnett. The new song has a rural feel, but doesn’t sound like a commercial country song. The music is acoustic and contemplative, and the lyrics, while outwardly soothing, have an undercurrent of hurt and dread. “Just close your eyes/ the sun is going down/ you’ll be alright/ no one can hurt you now,” Swift croons. The Hunger Games movie is an upcoming science fiction action drama film directed by Gary Ross and is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson. It is scheduled to be released on March 23, 2012.
Brief plot introduction about the Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is set in a not-too-distant future where the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.
